Louise Andrea B. Punzalan, Grade 4 pupil of the Al Dura International School in Jeddah, KSA and Jessica Mari Q. Flores, Grade 10 student of the Philippine International School – Qatar in Doha, Qatar were adjudged top artists in the Grade School and High School category, respectively, in the international poster making competition for Philippine Schools Overseas (PSO). The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) launched the said contest in time for the celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day this December.
Themed “Overseas Filipino Youth: Thinking Globally, Acting Locally”, the contest aims to encourage Filipino youth overseas to be engaged with the Filipino communities in their host countries as well as to educate them of the importance of giving back to their homeland; to discover and recognize the artistic talents of the students of PSOs; to collect quality artworks from grade school and high school students of PSOs that manifest their love of their motherland despite living and growing up in other countries, and to publish a coffee table book showcasing the talents of the winners, among others.

The cash prize for the winners was sponsored by Rex Bookstore International, Inc. and the plaques were sponsored by Abiva Publishing, Inc. As a result of the contest, all entries will be featured in a coffee table book to be published by the Vibal Publishing, Inc.
The competition gathered 65 entries in the grade school category and 119 entries in the high school category. Sixteen Philippine schools from 7 countries participated in the competition.
The formal awarding for the poster-making contest will be held during the Month of Overseas Filipinos on 18 December 2015, 5:30 p.m. at Ramon Magsaysay Hall, Social Security System Main Office, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
